Western Hills Christian Church Reaching Out
Western Hills Christian Church congregation is a very generous and caring congregation. The General Budget for the church includes approximately 10% of all income going towards Outreach in addition to our special projects throughout the year.
We contribute monthly to the Church Finance Council, Disciples Barrio Ministry, Bluebonnet Area (including the general office, the Disciple Oaks Conference Center, and new church growth), scholarships for Timothys attending Brite Divinity School, the local Christian Assistance Ministries, San Antonio Community of Churches, San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries, and the Southwest Good Samaritan Ministry.
The Inman Center
The Inman Center is always in need, and Western Hills chooses to help. Some of you may not know about the Inman Center. Below is the website and general information.
Their website: http://www.homelandministries.org/MissionCenters/Inman.htm.
Through the work of Dr. Samuel Guy Inman, Christian Woman's Board of Missions of the Christian Church founded Inman Christian Center in 1913. A neighborhood based Community Center, Inman seeks to serve the needs of low-income children and families who live near the Center and around the West side of San Antonio.
Western Hills provides supplies and support to this valuable center.
St. PJ's Children's Shelter
St. Peter-St. Joseph Children's Home serves the needs of children and families by providing a safe, nurturing community to heal body, mind and spirit, shape successful adults, and break the cycle of abuse and neglect. Their motto is "Building a stronger community one family at a time."
St. Peter-St. Joseph Children’s Home was originally founded as an orphanage by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in 1891. Today St. PJ’s is both a home to children who have suffered as victims of sexual and emotional abuse, neglect, poverty and broken homes and it is a community counseling and service center for families in crisis.
Robert Estes heads the drive to help those innocent ones the Lord has asked us to watch over. They request that your prayers be with all the workers and children as the facility is now full with over 100 children.
San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries (SAMM) Shelter
Western Hills serves the homeless at the SAMMs shelter each month. If you are interested in helping out with this service, please contact Robert Estes or the church office.
Food Pantry
Western Hills Christian Church maintains a food pantry to serve the community. This pantry is maintained by donations by Western Hills Christian Church staff, members, and friends. Each Sunday after the Children's Moment at the altar, the children go out into the congregation and collect the food items that were brought to replenish the food pantry.
The food pantry is now open on Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
