Youth Activites

Youth Group is offered to all youth preschool (4yrs) through 12th grade. Youth Group provides an opportunity for children to enjoy a variety of learning, fun, and ministry events. We meet on Sunday evenings, September through May, from 4:00-5:30 p.m. Meetings include a snack, games, and an active learning experience. Join us for fun and fellowship, worship and study, and service projects. Youth participate throughout the year in aspects of leading church worship especially in the fall and Easter. Other events range from fellowship outings, singing with the praise band to skits and puppet shows, summer of service ministry, and the annual Christmas Play. Youth groups also enjoy a weekend mission trip in the summer as well as great summer camp experiences. We invite your child to find a place with us and grow.

WHCC Youth News  5/4/2010

There are a lot of exciting things happening with our youth group and I realize there is a need to keep the congregation in the loop. At the same time I know people have had some concerns about the youth program. Please know that I understand the concerns. I have prayed on them and I am striving to become a more effective leader and servant of God. My primary goal is to help ALL of the youth along their journey of faith, and to empower others to do the same. To that end, I will be writing a monthly newsletter article to keep the congregation informed of all youth group activities, current and planned.

The youth groups have been very busy recently. Sarah is new to JYF, but she has started off with a bang! She started off with her first lesson on how Jesus is the key to heaven and the kids then made key chains to keep as a reminder. Next Sarah and JYF will study that Jesus is love, and make a heart wreath craft as a reminder of his love. JYF is also very excited about the puppet show that they wish to share with the congregation, pending several more practices. Richard is continuing to pass on his infinite wisdom of the parables to a most eager and energetic group of amazing kids. Richard will continue this study with his creative ability through music (the kids love his guitar) skits and puppet shows.

Cathy Guertin and Lori Lime have continued to build relationships with our high school and junior high kids through many self reflecting study topics. CYF and Chi Rho recently discussed were they fit after trying to fit the entire group in Ashley Guertin’s little red car! We had 8 CYF attend the Area Assembly Lock in and Western Hills was represented very well by this group of kids. This past Sunday CYF and Chi Rho focused on team building with several fun games. They shared how situations can become “sticky” and the focus was to remind them they have a voice. Summer is almost here and all the youth leaders are planning their end of the year celebrations.

In addition to planning their parties CYF and Chi Rho have several projects in place. One being the upcoming mission trip planned for the weekend of July 17th. The theme is the Big Help. The mission trip is still in the planning process but the leaders, with input from some very helpful people have put together some great ideas. The kids will serve at the Food Bank, and then do the “Wipe It Out San Antonio”, where the youth will paint over graffiti. They will continue their Big Help Mission Trip by making blessing kits for the Inman Christian Center and helping members of this congregation as needed. Please see the newsletter for more information.

All the groups are learning about and enjoying God’s love as summer soon approaches. This summer the youth groups will take a break from meeting regularly but all the groups will be participating in the Summer of Service (SOS) project. The groups are already beginning to organize ways on how they can help out and how we can live out our faith by serving the least of these. I am available anytime if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.Jen Adamson
